Just a few years ago traffic jams were more rare in Palm Coast than dry days in Seattle. With the tremendous growth experienced by the area, the picture has changed dramatically. The good news is that we have long way to go before it gets as bad as LA. Still, it's a good idea to be aware of the best routes and times to travel and commute.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH - Recent frigid nighttime temperatures and rain have delayed a highly visible paving project along Florida A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach, a state agency said this week.
The $3.4 million resurfacing project along the busy stretch of roadway from the Duval County line south to Sawgrass Country Club was originally slated for completion in early February, said Sandra Mancil, project spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Transportation. But continual cold temperatures coupled with time off for the holidays stalled the project, which began in August .

The Beaches Trolley is coming back in the spring, but fares will be increasing from 50 cents to $1 and there will be a longer wait between trolleys because private sponsorships aren't available.
The community shuttle system is scheduled to run May 3 through Sept. 6 on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays, said Jacksonville Transportation Authority spokeswoman Wendy Morrow.
However, this year there will be three rather than four trolleys and some changes to the route, she said.

Westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were reopened around 10:45 a.m. after being closed due to a 9:45 a.m. accident at the Marietta exit just west of Interstate 295, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
It was also affecting 295 traffic.
Sandi Sandberg vividly remembers the day she almost was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
Last June, she was driving west on Beaver Street at the intersection of Interstate 95 when a trailer detached from a white pickup truck going east. That trailer flew head-on into her car.
"I saw the trailer go airborne and there was nothing I could do before it hit me," Sandberg said.
When emergency responders extracted her, Sandberg found out she'd broken bones in both legs. A hospital stay and months of rehabilitation followed before she returned to work in December.

ST. AUGUSTINE - Wedding bell cutouts hung at the entrance to the service department and Ford Motor Co.'s signature blue and silver adorned a balloon arch in the dealership showroom as bride and groom said their vows.
For Ford Mustang lovers Vickie Sue Kilpatrick and Ronnie Cox, it was the perfect way to mix two loves.
"Mustang" is even etched in their wedding bands.
